Do you have a leaking or blocked toilet? Neither is great and can cost you a lot of money in repairs, water bills and damage to your property the longer you leave it unattended.

It pays to regularly check if you have a leak in your toilet. A continuous trickle can waste around 9,000 litres of water a year, which makes a big difference to your water bill, and that septic tank system again.

Signs you have a leaky toilet

• • Water is continuously trickling down the inside of the toilet bowl long after flushing
  • Damp floor around the toilet
  • Cracks in the toilet’s porcelain

You can also test to see if you have a leaking toilet by adding a few drop of food colouring into the cistern. If after 30 minutes you see coloured water in the toilet bowl, then you know you have a leak.
